The Pink Drink Trend

The Pink Drink Trend

Pink was definitely the colour of 2023– and beverages are no exception! With it’s popularity in 2023, we expect further growth of the pink drink trend in 2024.

‘Instagrammable’ drinks (vibrant glitters, bright sprinkles and toppings) have become increasingly popular with consumers, especially Millennials and Gen Z. According to a recent survey, 40% of people say they often share photos of their food online. Also, 53% have been inspired to buy a product after seeing it on their feed or timeline.

Recently, the pink trend has been further amplified with the release of the Barbie movie, which grossed £1.082 billion in 2023. ‘Barbiecore’ hasn’t just reached drinks like the ‘Malibu Barbie Pink Cocktail’, it has influenced fashion, food, events, drinks, interior design and so much more. Starbucks also released a ‘Barbie Frappuccino’ on their secret menu!

January 2024 will see the release of another highly anticipated PINK film; Mean Girls (2024)! The original Mean Girls film came out in 2004 and grossed a huge £102 million worldwide. Despite it being 20 years since it was released, Mean Girls has remained popular and even debuted on Broadway in 2018. The iconic film has been watched, re-watched and endlessly quoted by a generation including the iconic line ‘on Wednesdays we wear pink’. There’s even a ‘Mean Girls Day’. On October 3rd is fans celebrate by sharing memes, lines and memorable scenes – and wearing pink clothes. We predict the release will influence the food and drink market, similarly Barbie in 2023.

Starbucks Pink Drink

Since the summer of 2017, Starbucks has sold their viral Pink Drink (strawberry and acai with accents of passion fruit all combined with coconut milk). The hashtag #pinkdrink boasts over 528,000 posts on Instagram and 954 million views on TikTok.

Alcoholic Pink Drinks

From the popularity of pink wine to the thriving pink spirits category, consumers can’t get enough of pink-coloured alcoholic drinks. Pink gin volumes grew 16% in 2021 and are expected to grow at a volume CAGR of 4% 2021-2026. In 2017, Gordon’s released Premium Pink Gin in the UK. It added £75.2 million to Gordon’s sales in its first 12 months.

Pink Hot Chocolate

Pink Hot Chocolate

Pink hot chocolate is another major player in the pink drink trend. 38% of consumers believe that substituting regular hot chocolate with pink hot chocolate enhances the product’s premium feel. The hot pink drink, sold at the UK’s leading cafe, Costa, is an Instagram worthy drink best enjoyed with whipped cream and marshmallows! You can even make it at home with Simply Luxury Pink Chocolate Powder.
